EMINENCE, KENTUCKY AUGUST 20, 2008
SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
The City Council of the City of Eminence, Kentucky met in a special session on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 5:15 p.m. at the Eminence City Hall Council Chambers with Mayor Jim Petitt and the following members present: Danny Meadows, Treva Browning, Shawn Bright, Drane Stephens, Richard Thomas, and George Armstrong. Absent was none. Other individuals present were City Attorney William Brammell, City Clerk Sandra Doane, Public Works Director William Smith, Police Chief Carey Duncan, Jonna Priester with the Henry County Local, Helen Moore, Joyce Meyer, Glenda Way, Kelli Louden, Ann Godbey, Bob McGee, Tim Fitzgerald, Donald Young, Kimberly Duso, Charlotte Duso, Ricky Rynes, Jean Thomas, Rodney Vanlandingham, Janie Vanlandingham, Doug Gingrich, and Manda Gingrich.
The purpose of the meeting being called was to discuss the pool and alternative citizen recreation.
Pledge of allegiance held.
Mayor Petitt called the meeting to order at 5:16 p.m.
Subject: Pool – Mayor Petitt reported that he spoke, as directed by council, with Shelbyville Mayor Tom Hardesty concerning how they filled in their old swimming pool. They used dirt and rocks and drove over it in trucks to compress it down.
Mayor Petitt reported that Jerry Martin with Frankfort Pest Control treated for mosquitoes at the pool with chemicals that should kill the mosquitoes in two days and last for three months. He also sprayed at the buildings. He did this at no charge to the City.
The County Road Department has 300 tons of assorted fill material which they will donate and even haul for us to use in filling the pool if we choose to do so. We will need approximately 1,350 tons total. The quarry has assorted size scrap rock which they will sell to us for a reduced price of $2.50 a ton and the County has agreed to haul this for us for only the cost of their fuel. If we have to pay to haul the rock it would be $7.50 per ton. With using the County fill material and purchasing the remainder from the quarry and having the County haul this for us would cost approximately $5,000.00 plus the use of our own city truck.
Ann Godbey stated she was here to follow-up on the pool. One of her grandchildren has already had to go to the doctor this week for mosquito bites. She has had to miss two days of school and is a carrier of strep so they are always concerned. Mrs. Godbey stated she appreciates all our efforts.
Glenda Way thanked the City for pumping out the pool immediately after the last council meeting as agreed to.
Motion made by Member Bright and seconded by Member Stephens to authorize spending the $5,000.00 to fill in the pool as discussed above by Mayor Petitt. On a call of vote by Clerk Doane, voting “Yea” were Members Bright, Stephens, Armstrong, Browning and Meadows. Voting “Nay” was Member Thomas.
Member Bright suggested tabling the other agenda item until more information on alternative recreation forms can be obtained.
With no further business to be discussed, motion made by Member Bright and seconded by Member Browning to adjourn. All members present voted “Yea”. Meeting adjourned at 5:21 p.m.
